The Japan Fans Utrecht organise concerts with Japanese music from the movies of Studio Ghibli. Read more about this Ghibli music concert series in this blog post!
So far, four concerts are planned, each featuring an hour of piano solo. The majority of the repertoire consists of the fairytale-like music from the films of animation studio Ghibli – the Japanese version of Disney. Among others, pieces from the films “Spirited Away”, “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, “My Neighbour Totoro” and “Ponyo” will be performed.
As Japan Fans Foundation, we are happy to offer a free concert to care homes in the Utrecht region. The concert series fits in with our aim to contribute something to the city of Utrecht through our common interest in Japan. It fits in with our other activities, such as Dutch language lessons for Japanese immigrants, sushi making for the homeless and origami folding workshops in hospitals.
Besides the concert series with Ghibli music, we also organised the artistic research “The Spirit of Kanji“, demonstrations of Japanese martial arts, pop-up exhibitions with Japanese calligraphy and free concerts with meditative Japanese flute music. We performed at larger events such as CAMERA JAPAN, the Utrecht ComicCon, Heroes made in Asia, festival Gluren op de Heuvelrug and the “Manga & Japanese Culture Week” in the Neude Library.
