Hanami in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn (with flute music!)

On a bright Sunday afternoon, 23 April, we were invited to the Cherry Blossom Party in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht. Organised by Kuratje and Midegain, this event was a true celebration of everything that makes Japan so enchanting. And what a wonderful afternoon it was! We would like to thank the organisers for inviting us.

Hanami in Utrecht Leidsche RijnAn Enchanting Tradition

Hanami, meaning “flower gazing”, is an ancient Japanese tradition where friends and families gather under the blossoming cherry blossom to enjoy each other’s company, good food, and the beauty of nature. In Japan, cherry blossom season is a real thrill, and people plan their lives around it to admire these beautiful flowers. This custom has spread worldwide, and Leidsche Rijn joined in this celebration of spring and natural beauty.

Culinary Indulgences

A highlight of the Hanami Festival was the chance to enjoy delicious sake, the traditional Japanese alcoholic drink made from fermented rice. Yuko-san surprised us with Japanese delicacies, amazake (a sweet, light alcoholic drink), and Japanese sweets that enchanted our taste buds. Besides all the Japanese goodies, there were traditional Japanese games like kendama (a skill toy) and kokeshi (wooden dolls) to try out.

A Culturally Rich Experience

The Hanami Festival offered visitors a glimpse into Japan’s rich culture and history while surrounded by beautiful cherry flower trees and Japanese flute music played by Martine.
