Japanese (inspired) cooking

Many of the Japan Fans are real kitchen connoisseurs, combining their own background and experience with Japanese influences. On this page, you will find their recipes, mostly written out and with photos, sometimes with demonstrational videos as well.

👩‍🍳 Jasmine taught us her unique original sushi bowl and sushi cake.

👩‍🍳 Klara introduced us to the concept of Shojin Ryori (the traditional dining style of Buddhist monks in Japan).

👩‍🍳 Sanne shares her modern take on tonkatsu – with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and mustard!

👩‍🍳 From her vintage cookbook, Kelly shared a very tasty and easy-to-prepare soup of seaweed, tofu and miso. (With an accompanying video by Atse & Martine).

Do you also have a nice Japanese-inspired recipe you’d like to share with us? Mail us or leave a message in the FB group, and we will add your culinary skills to our website! ^_^

If you like, you can find inspiration for your recipes in the free cooking lessons by Taka – from his YouTube channel “Regional Food Japan”.

Soon we will organise cooking lessons for the Study Group, with a friend of Hiromi-san, in a professional kitchen at De Middengaarde. In the meantime, you can enjoy the other delicious Japanese – and Japanese-inspired – recipes on this website. Moreover: we have sent Taka an e-mail and asked for a cooking lesson via video call! Fingers crossed.

If I had to choose, I think that Ramen is my favourite Japanese dish… what’s yours?
